Dr. Ashley Whitehead

Dr. Ashley Whitehead received her B.S. in secondary mathematics education from Oakland City University and her M.S. degree in applied mathematics from Indiana State University. Prior to returning to North Carolina State University for her Ph.D. in mathematics education, she taught mathematics and elementary education courses as a tenure-track instructor at both Austin Peay State University and the University of Southern Indiana.

In addition to her work as a faculty member, she has also led a county-wide mathematics professional development in North Carolina, remains active in a variety of professional organizations, and has worked collaboratively to publish articles in both mathematics and science.

Her teaching and research interests include the preparation of preservice teachers with a focus on the development of preservice elementary teachers' mathematical knowledge for teaching.

In 2023, as part of the college's Mentoring Guild, she received the Community of Practice Award.
